Classes Levels

Open Level

This class is an open-level class.  All levels are welcome. A private session is recommended before entering this class but not required. Please consult your teacher when interested in changing class levels.

Level I

After mastering the basic Pilates principles and exercises, the Level I class will be the next step. Previous Pilates experience is a must. Beginning intermediate exercises will be taught at this level. While continuing to focus on body alignment, control, and precision, you will perfect the beginner exercises while learning intermediate exercises.

Level II

This is an intermediate Pilates class. This class will focus more on flow, breath, and moving through each exercise without stopping.  A solid understanding of the beginner/intermediate exercises is expected at this level. If you are dealing with an injury, please consult the teacher. You may need to modify a lot of these exercises, therefore making this class, not the appropriate level for you.

Level III

This is recommended only for students who have a lot of previous experience and are injury free. This class progresses through an intermediate/advanced series. Be prepared to sweat! The focus is on all 6 principles at the same time: centering, control, concentration, breath, flow, and precision. Advanced exercises will be introduced and perfected at this level.

Level IV

This class is for clients who have practiced Pilates for years and/or have been approved for super-advanced Pilates work. Working with different tempos, flowing movement, more repetition and advanced mat exercises. This class will focus on more overhead work and upper body work.  If you have an injury, this is NOT the class for you.

Specialty Classes

Pilates Mature Body Method®

This class is a specialty Pilates class geared for students aged 60 and older with special emphasis on how the Pilates Method works on a mature body. Traditional classical Pilates is made safe for an older student. These classes also may use the following apparatus: the tower unit, magic circle, hand weights, small barrels, balls and standing balancing exercises are highlighted. Students learn how to safely exercise in a small group class setting.  Beginners welcome.

Foam Roller/Stretch

This class uses the foam roller to aid in self-massage, stretching and releasing muscles in your body.  Stretching is a crucial part of any exercise routine that improves flexibility, skeletal alignment and reduces stress. The foam roller will not only be used in self-massage, it will be used in some stability exercises as well.  You will leave feeling relieved of muscular tension and daily stress.

Scoliosis Specific Group Class

This specialized Pilates class is designed for clients with scoliosis who want a safe, supportive, and highly individualized approach to movement. Limited to just three participants, This session offers personalized attention while maintaining the motivating energy of a group setting.

Each class focuses on scoliosis-specific principles, including spinal elongation, rotational breathing, muscular balance, and postural awareness. Exercises are thoughtfully adapted to each student’s unique curve pattern, helping to improve alignment, core stability, flexibility, and overall body symmetry.

Using a combination of mat work and Pilates equipment (as appropriate), students will work on:

  • De-rotating and lengthening the spine
  • Strengthening weakened or underactive muscle groups
  • Releasing areas of tension and overactivity
  • Improving breathing mechanics and rib mobility
  • Enhancing posture and body awareness in daily life

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need private sessions before joining a group class?

Private sessions are recommended before joining a group class, but they are not required for our Upper East Side Open Level Pilates classes. We encourage beginners to start with two private sessions to learn the equipment and basic exercises. For small group training in Tarrytown, contact us first so we can help you choose the right starting point.

Our Tarrytown studio offers small group training using a mix of Pilates apparatus. Check the schedule for current availability.

How many people are in a class?

Our in-studio Pilates classes are limited to three students. Keeping classes small gives your teacher time to observe your movement, offer individual corrections, and help you get more from each exercise.

How much do Pilates classes cost?

Single classes cost $55 at our Upper East Side studio and $60 in Tarrytown, with lower per-class rates available through class plans. New clients can try three classes for $105 on the Upper East Side or $120 in Tarrytown. Prices exclude the listed 4.5% personal service tax, NYC only. Visit our pricing page for details.

How long is a class?

Our Upper East Side group classes are 45 minutes long. Small group training in Tarrytown is 45-50 minutes long, allowing time to work with different apparatus and receive individual guidance.

How often should I take Pilates classes?

The right class frequency depends on your goals and how much other exercise you do. Two or three sessions a week can help you establish a consistent practice if Pilates is your main form of exercise. One weekly session can also be valuable alongside other activities. Your teacher can help you find a schedule that works for you, or email us and we can hop on a call with you to design a schedule that fits best for you.

Are your Pilates classes good for beginners?

Our beginner-friendly Pilates classes welcome students who are learning the method. We recommend starting with private sessions, then choosing an appropriate class with your teacher’s guidance. The Tarrytown Beginner Class is the best way to begin.  In NYC, Level 1, Open Level classes and Pilates Mature Body Method® offer welcoming options. Please contact us before booking if you have an injury or ongoing condition that affects your movement.  We do not offer prenatal group classes

What should I wear and bring to my first class?

Comfortable exercise clothing that lets you move freely is a good choice for your first class. Choose clothing that allows your teacher to see your alignment, and bring water. Let your teacher know about any injuries, movement limitations, or concerns before class begins.

How do I book a class?

You can book Upper East Side group classes through our online class schedule. Choose your class and follow the booking prompts. For small group training in Tarrytown, contact the studio to arrange your session.
